In our lives… I survived last week of single parenting, and yesterday Anna and I were delighted to welcome papa back home. It certainly made me appreciate everything my husband does to keep our family running smoothly so much more! Now we can start planning for the rest of our year together, and spend as much time outside as possible. We all love nature, and this is one of our resolutions for this year – outside adventures together.
Afterschool. Anna had an interesting event in school last week – Author’s week. 4 different children authors came to school, one every day to talk to kids about writing and illustrating books. She is really looking forward to “Make-a-book” event this Wednesday. In the meantime she is doing plenty of writing at home, making 26 Valentine cards for her classmates. 9 down, 17 more to go! We also did a small “winter craft” day and both of us learned how to fold and cut 6 sided snowflakes.
Places we are going. We had a busy week because MLK was a holiday for me. We had a playdate with Anna’s friend from Y, the girls had a lot of fun building forts and playing camping together. We also had a “Japan Day” and visited Hakone Gardens. It’s fun to watch Anna discovering new places and making friends – she is so happy when she gets to do something special with her parents and friends.
Quote of the week:
- Anna (playing with her friend). When I grow up, I want to be the first female President of the United States. I also want to be a teacher, a writer, and to run my own company!
- Her friend (slightly overwhelmed): I don’t know, it’s a lot of jobs. I just want to be an art teacher.

I bet she can do all those things! Will keep an eye out for her in the future.
Lol at Anna's friend's reaction to Anna's ambition!
The author's week sounds amazing.
What a wonderful week! I love that last picture of Anna. It is so sweet.
I remember loving author days when I was in school.
