School. It was the last week of the year for Anna. Her teacher had an emergency with her father and was out for most of the week. Luckily, her father is OK, and she was able to come back for Friday’s pajama day and holiday party. Anna was super excited about her pajama day – she got new “Angry Bird” pajamas as an early Christmas present to wear on Friday. At first she was disappointed about pink pants, because she doesn’t like pink, but she came back and reported with satisfaction that all the boys thought my pjs are cool. Even though she is more interested in what boys think, we observe that she starts to get more engaged with girls in her class and makes more girl friends lately.
Afterschool. My husband and I had big plans for our first week of winter break while Anna was still in school. Unfortunately, he was sick with a nasty cold, and I was feeling like I am fighting the same virus. We managed to make it to our big outlet mall to do some Christmas shopping. Anna was delighted to receive another early Christmas present – her first shoes with laces, and she still needs a lot of practice in tying them.
Christmas prep. I can’t believe that today is a Christmas eve. It’s our “slowest” Christmas ever, and Anna is a little disappointed that we didn’t get to do more fun things together. But she had a lot of time with both of us and this is ultimately what matters. She enjoyed seeing The Nutcracker and having her best friend’s family over for a pre-Christmas playdate. The kids put up a puppet show for us and exchanged presents.
Quote of the week:
- Anna (pointing at a few drops on the tiled floor): We need to clean it up. Papa says water is bad for the floor.
- Me: A few drops of water will not harm the floor, and it’s time for you to go to bed.
- Anna: I like your idea better, mama, because it doesn’t involve work.
