I really enjoyed my vacation this year. I “signed off” on December 16 and managed to convince myself to close my Outlook on December 20 when I noticed myself compulsively reading and even responding to incoming emails. Anna also had two weeks of vacation, but she went to a very fun winter camp in her afterschool for the first week. It gave me and my husband a chance to finish our Christmas prep and spend much needed time as a couple. In the end of the year we fell into a routine of spending most of our precious time together in front of TV, and it was good to discuss together what we want to do better next year.
The second week was spent doing fun activities together:
Celebrating Christmas and opening presents…
Reading a lot of good books, even on the road.
Hiking in our favorite State Park
Observing free-flying tropical butterflies in California Academy of Science
Celebrating a New Year
Trying out a new park
Catching some snowflakes even though they were fake. Our Californian girl probably thinks that snow comes in soapy bubbles.
- On Monday night I asked Anna, What was your favorite part of vacation?
- Anna: So much mama! I love you, mama!
- Me: I love you too, sweetie. And what was least favorite?
- Anna: No school!

Sounds like you had a rejuvenating break. The fake snowflakes are hilarious!
I love the first photo! It makes me wonder what she received to have such excited expression!
I am so glad you had time off to enjoy both of the most important people in your life :-)!
I hope 2012 brings your family health and happiness, Natalie, truly.
That is a beautiful picture of the butterfly on the flower. I absolutely love it and wish I could blow it up and see it in detail--LOL!
I love, love, love Anna's answers to your questions. So sweet, both of them and it is wonderful that she missed school! Such a blessing to know that she enjoys it and feels comfortable there.
Hope you are all adjusting smoothly to regular routines this week and work some fun in somewhere too :-).
It's so great that she loves school!
Sounds like a wonderful vacation!
LOVE Anna's quote! My kids missed school, too.
I love the pictures. It sounds like you had a great vacation. My kids only had one week off - it went by too fast.
The fake snow made me laugh!!! R missed school too - isn't it nice to know they enjoy it?
What a little sweetheart!! Looks like a fabulously fun break!!
I used to read in the car like that. still do if I can get away with it, so I totally get it.
It sounds like a great vacation. We had a little one going back and forth begging for snow or sunshine. Now she has been begging for school books.
I am so glad you enjoyed your vacation! It looks like such a good time :)
I love the look on Anna's face in that first picture of her, and I like the shot at the state park.
Happy New Year Natalie!!
I'm so glad you had a wonderful and relaxing vacation. Anna's comment was so sweet.
Little Wonders' Days
Lucky you! Sounds like you had a nice, relatively relaxing break and enjoyed your mama time.
My husband only took off a few days here and there. I hope he'll take more time next year!
Awwww, Anna's comment is adorable.
I would love to observe those butterflies.
The Christmas break is the big break for us here in Australia. Most schools resume around the end of January (so we get about seven weeks in total)
Looking at this again...I LOVE the expression on Anna's face in that first picture. Now, that is pure and utter happiness, Natalie!
I love that you include your outdoor activities in your round up most weeks =) Included one of your pictures and a link back on my post this week! http://theeducatorsspinonit.blogspot.com/2012/01/afterschool-express-outside-play.html
