I found this craft through Crafty Crow and was intrigued by how different the process was from a usual color-cut-glue approach to children craft. I already had sequins (not as pretty but good enough) in my craft cabinet, so it was an easy setup and easy demonstration, and I was amused to see how long Anna stuck with this project – way longer than he
r usual attention span for art projects. She even asked to do another ornament to give to our neighbors, but I will definitely go with a smaller ball next time! What I like about this project is that it’s such a good fine motor skill practice – first putting tiny sequins in order on the tiny pin, and then sticking them into the ball. Just the right amount of challenge for my 5 year old, and the results are prettier in reality than in these photos.

I love when I can find fun ways to sneak in fine motor activities. The ornament does look very pretty.
Little Wonders' Days
i loved that idea too and would love to try it sometime! I pinned it!
yes that looks like a simple activity that the kids can work on little by little if needed/wanted....not sure we'll have time to fit it in now though ;-)
I love this!!! I think R will enjoy it too!
Ooh, I like this. I'll have to save it and try it soon!
Ah, this is perfect for my little man who loves to poke things into styrofoam. :) I have been sick and he is begging for "something to do", and I think I have everything we need for this, so I am off to find the supplies and then try to sneak in a little rest while he is busy. Thanks for a wonderful idea!
She looks so happy. This looks like a great craft...more like a skill than a craft. Thanks for posting about it.
this is a great idea! thanks for sharing it!
We have some ornaments like this my Mom did when I was very young hanging on my tree. They're much more complicated, but they always turn out so beautiful. Especially if someone has the patience to cover the entire thing.
I need to pick up some Styrofoam shapes and let my kids have at this.
I never remember to buy styrofoam balls - there are so many good crafts that call for them - but I never have them on hand. I'm sure Anna's ornament is pretty, sparkling in the Christmas lights.
What a cool project! My kids would love this activity!
I love this idea. Her ornament is so pretty.
I like this as a fine motor activity, but I wonder what I could use instead of a styrofoam ball?
I smiled when I read your comment about buying a smaller ball (only because I often do this - I buy a larger version of a particular item and then part way through a craft realise that it would have been so much wiser to get the smaller option).
This is a fun activity that I'm sure my cherubs would enjoy.
