Did you know that the first week of November is a Chemistry Week? November teachable moments have enlightened me. I guess it’s because Marie Curie was born on November 7. I read her biography about 100 times when I was a teenager hoping to win a Nobel Prize in chemistry one day, but I digress. I really wanted to do something with Anna to celebrate a Chemistry Week, but only on Sunday I was finally able to gather
my energies to do something. First we watched a couple of movies on BrainPop Jr on States of Matter and Physical and Chemical Changes. I am trying out membership this week, and Anna absolutely loves the movies and the quizzes that come with them. The movie pointed out cooking as a prime example of a chemical change. I had a different idea in mind – making a playdoh.
We made playdoh (using a recipe from Superheroes and Princesses) before, and Anna’s favorite part is adding food coloring. She is in a Christmas mood already and was wanting to build a Christmas scene with her playdoh. Perhaps it was because papa was experimenting with building a Christmas village out of cardstock at the same time. I can’t believe that Christmas is practically around the corner!

Wow! Are you going to get him to do a guest post?
The cardstock village is super impressive! I want to know how he did it too!
I love both Christmas villages!
I love the Christmas village! I second the request for a guest tutorial post, if he is willing.
I also like Anna's Christmas scene.
And I idolized Madame Curie as a teenager too. Still do, actually.
I liked Marie Curie too, I'll join that band wagon.
That is an awesome village he made, and I love the play dough creations with it.
We gave a membership to brainpop and really like it... Fabulous cardstock village!
Isn't BrainPop great?!
I love Anna's colorful play dough creation, and your husband's Christmas village is amazing!
Kitchen chemistry is definitely my favorite kind of science. Especially if it involves researching the melting point of chocolate.
I loved Leah's comment! His village looks great! Anna's enthusiasm to imitate her dad is wonderful!
Your play dough looks so pretty and the card stock village is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll add to the list of requests for that tutorial!!!
Playdoh is always a big hit at our house. :) That card stock village is beautiful! So simple and elegant. :D
Collin's teacher recommended a website called fossweb.com. She said to choose the K-2 activity page and then click on solids and liquids and choose the "change it" activity. You can predict what will happen to a solid or liquid when heat or cold is applied. This just came home in a newsletter, so we haven't tried it yet, but it's on our to do list!
Oooh, very pretty play dough. I thought your village was a store bought one until I read your post. He's done a beautiful job!
