We don’t get fancy visiting elaborate pumpkin fairs. Instead I am taking Anna every year to a local pumpkin patch that is thrown as a fund raiser by one of schools in the area. It’s just a piece of a big parking lot, but she doesn’t mind as long as she gets to jump off haystacks, pet rabbits and, of course, select pumpkins for home.
One pumpkin was promptly decorated with a kit that I had from the previous Halloween. Not a chance that this could be done without my help – the pipecleaners were supposed to be stuck in the pumpkin. Anna helped enthusiastically and loved the final result. To round up the evening, we read The Pumpkin Fair by Eve Bunting, one of my favorite pumpkin books.
Now we have a pumpkin family outside – I think I went a bit overboard with the size of “pumpkin daddy”, but Anna has personally selected all the pumpkins and refused to exchange “pumpkin daddy” for a smaller pumpkin. We also brough home too small sugar pumpkin, and I am very tempted to do some of those fantastic science/cooking projects from Almost Unschoolers.

We used to go to the Queens County Farm Museum for their pumpkin patch festival, but every time we would get stuck in traffic and it would to take an hour each way, so now it's the farmers' market for us.
That pumpkin kit looks like fun, but I don't know how they expect a child to stick pipe cleaners in a pumpkin!
If you're going to cut into your sugar pumpkins be sure to add "How Many Seeds In A Pumpkin?" to your library list :)
We also visit a local pumpkin patch each year that raises money for charity. It's a family tradition. :)
We have a FREE printable book: Going to the Pumpkin Patch, that would be perfect for Anna.

Now if you were to ask Selena to pick out pumpkins for the entire family, she would find the largest one for Papa too. Now aren't Papa's suppose to be big and strong?
I love her pumpkins! Daddy must be very tall!
What a great idea for a school fundraiser! Love the picture of her sitting on the big pumpkin!

It sounds like a great time spent together. She looks like she had a wonderful time. Love the pumpkin family!
