Good folks from Blue Slip Media have sent us a great book to review – Planting the Wild Garden by Kathrin O. Galbraith. I was excited to receive it, since it was perfect for a nice garden-friendly weather that we have here lately. Anna and I quite enjoyed the story that focuses on different ways the seeds travel around, but we also appreciated the illustrations by Wendy Halperin. I called Anna’s attention to how some pages are divided into section and different details are shown in each section. I
proposed to her to draw her own “quilt drawing” with crayons and then fill the background with watercolors. I was hoping for keeping the theme to the garden details, but she quickly informed me that she wants to draw what she wants to draw, which ended up to be “a tree, a flower, a pancake, a building, a portrait of two people walking and another flower”. Anna also learned a couple
of things – it doesn’t work too well to select a background that is pretty much the same color as the foreground, and that the colors of the pen bleed into the watercolor paint. She also figured out that our own dry seeds from an acacia plant in the garden will make perfect feed for her plastic animals (and maybe they will get to grow in a new place as a result)

Ah, to be painting outside in the sun....
It looks like a good book.
Look at her in shorts - I am so jealous!
That book sounds great.
Very nice art extension for the book!
I've got that same book to read. I'm thinking tomorrow before we go out to the bluebonnets.......
FYI: The last sentence on your post cut off before it was done (I figured you'd want to know, because I'd want to know something like that).
I'm also jealous of the painting outdoors in the sun, in shorts!
We finally have some sun today, but it's COLD still.
The book looks very nice...we've read other books illustrated by Wendy Halperin before.
I love that Anna "wants to draw what she wants to draw"...my youngest daughter is very much the same!
Anna is a girl who definitely knows what she wants! Her drawing looks very nice, and the book sounds neat!
How wonderful that you are able to enjoy such a nice time outdoors! It looks like a nice book.

How lovely that this book inspired some water colour painting outside. We would have probably ended up with the same scenario here too - a "quilt drawing" with random pictures! At least our girls have a clear vision of what they set out to achieve :)
What a great looking book. I love the idea of the quilt drawing. I am also really jealous that you are able to do projects outside. It is soooo cold here still!!
Thank you for linking up to stART :0)
A pancake and flower quilt...wouldn't that be fun to display at a quilt show?
I'll have to look for that book. Bear is loving You Read to Me, I'll Read to You. Glad you recommended that last week or the week before.
What an adorable book! I'll have to look for that one now! Thanks for sharing!
