This was Anna’s first week back home. She was not thrilled to go back to preschool, but overall she seems to be more settled there than before her trip to grandparents. I attended a back-to-school night while she was away and talked to the teachers about her need for friends. It seems that they are trying to engage her more in group activities, and she is always in a good mood when she is picked up. They are doing a lot of cutting and coloring, and it looks like she applies herself more with those activities in school than she does at home. Her preschool theme was “community helpers”, and our theme at home was apples.
We read several books about apple trees, apple geography and history, and we did a taste test of different apples. Fuji emerged as our favorite, and we want to try and grow the tree out of seeds. I also planned some art projects, but Anna had absolutely no interest in art this week. Besides, it would be almost sinful to waste an opportunity to spend time in the pool while we still have a chance to catch the last of summer.
I cannot say that we had any special highlights this week. Both daughter and papa are still getting over the jet lag, which means early mornings and being tired and cranky at around 7 pm. But it was good to play games, read books and talk together. We play “what comes to mind” game a lot. For example, I ask Anna, “What comes to your mind when you think about fall?” She said at once, colored leaves, jack-o-lanterns, costumes, coats, umbrellas and ripe apples. I am not quite ready for umbrellas, but I hope to enjoy the rest of fall activities with her in October.

I hope the rain holds off for you for a while yet. I remember some VERY rainy California winters...
And I'm glad that preschool is going better for Anna now!
I good week, I'd say.
I think your right - enjoy the good weather while you have it. Indoor activities can wait.
Oh boy if we were having as nice of weather as you are we would be outside as well. Not that ours has been bad, we've had great weather this week.
That's a great question: "What comes to mind?" I'm definitely going to use that.
I love the "What Comes to Mind" game! I am definitely going to give that a try, maybe in the car. We love to play little games like that too. My most recent one is "What is the same and different about..." so I'll ask him, as we're driving "what is the same about an orange and an apple" and then what is different about them. It seems to work his brain quite a bit as it takes him awhile to come up with answers sometimes. It's so fun to see how their little brains work.
I have an award for you over at my blog.

Such a great idea-the What comes to mind game!
I wish we were having beautiful weather as well, been rainy every day, which is really sad because Kaelyn keeps wanting to plant flowers.
Not too many highlights here this week either. Four sick kids, a sick husband and a very overwhelmed mama! Taking it one day at a time right now....
Enjoy the pool while it lasts. It finally cooled off here, but for how long who knows:-).
That "what comes to mind game" sounds like a great game I could play with Savvy while I am feeding Taleea.
I agree, the pool would win hands down here too - you just have to enjoy it while you can.
I love her answer on what comes to mind about fall. Right now my kids would just say "costumes and Halloween."
Enjoy the pool while you can!
