Anna goes through periods of fascination with her felt boards. We have some felt pieces made by my husband and a picnic set that we got as a gift a year ago. Suddenly she wanted all her felt out and is spending her naptimes constructing scenes and telling herself stories with felt characters. I guess we need to expand her collection, since she is using felt very differently now – not just to place pieces on the board, but really to create her own world with them.
Come over and play at Childhood 101.

I love watching kids use toys differently as they grow up, and felt boards are fantastic toys!
The discovery of old toys! I love it when they discover an old toy and now play with it in a different way.
Anna sounds like such a neat, imaginative kid! Your posts always inspire me to try and initiate more creative play in our house :)
This sounds so great. I made Kiddo a felt board but he never got into it.
I love felt boards more than my children do. They use them occasionally.
I like that you call it "nap time".
Alright, Alright, I have got to get my act together and finish our felt board. It just looks like this would be too much fun.
I purchased all of the stuff a long time ago and have just never put it all together.
Great idea for a creative outlet for her!
Felt boards are so much fun and one of my fav. gift ideas for preschool and toddler age children :)
We posted felt boards for We Play a week or so ago as they have suddenly become very popular again in our house too, and, as in your case, I have noticed how the way they are played with has gone through a big change :)
We definitely need more also ...
Making some of your own pieces sounds like such a great idea. Anna can help add detailing with fabric paint or gluing on sequins. I think homemade adds an extra layer of specialness. I often make sets representing stories which we know and enjoy.
Felt boards are great on so many levels.
