Anna loves Sid the Science Kid. In fact, she refuses to watch anything else and prefers instead to watch the same Sid the Science Kid episodes multiple times. Her previous “favorite” was the pulley episode, this week it was Lungs. I was hoping that she will draw her observations in the “journal”, but she continues to avoid anything that requires paper. Instead she just dictated “The Lungs Story” to me:
Once upon a time there was a girl that didn’t know about lungs. So she watched Sid the Science Kid almost every day to learn about her body. She learned that lungs are inside, and we cannot see them. We use them to breathe air in and out. We have two lungs. Whales also have lungs. And fish have lungs too, no, wait… they don’t… or maybe they do – I can’t remember.
To demonstrate the power of our lungs we did an experiment of moving a small rubber ball with an air exhaled through a straw. It was a big hit – we played a “table soccer” for a while, and then daughter was just off by herself experimenting with balls of different sizes and eventually just bouncing them all over the kitchen pretending that they are world travelers hoping between countries.

Lol on the world travelling balls! Anna would fit right in here :)
Sid the Science Kid is a huge hit here. Selena always has to have her journal with her for her science experiments, but never puts anything in it.
Love your idea for teaching about lungs!
Hopping between different countries. I love it.
Superman loves "How'd That Get on My Plate," and that's his current most requested show.
Great idea!
My kids love Sid. C has been learning about the lungs in health class, so he might enjoy this experiment.
My kids are like this about "Dinosaur Train". I loved her story =)
Oh my, you have the child with the enthusiastic want and need to learn, I have the one with the opposite! My daughter feels about Caillou as yours does about Sid The Science Kid......
Oh boy Anna is going to have an absolute ball in Kindergarten this fall.
Hello, You've linked this post up to the Few Of My Favourite Things Blog Hop http://ourworldwideclassroom.blogspot.com/2010/05/these-are-few-of-my-favourite-things.html
Just checking that you meant to do that as this post is a Science Sunday post. :0) :0) :0)
